A year as passed since the Hunters first arrived in Ohlornan, and although Emerys is nowhere near back to normal, he has been healing. His time in the apothecary has been teaching him that it's alright to take the time he needs to overcome what he's been through, and making friends with Mali'ryn has helped show him that he can and will heal, given the time.

But even as his life has been slowly working its way into a place where he feels safe once more, Ace isn't finished with him, and he is about to learn just how dangerous his new enemy can be.

Now, with Dare and Cydira's return, Emerys faces the hardest choice he has ever had to make, and one that will impact the rest of his life, no matter what he chooses.

Worse still, Ace has come out of the shadows once more, making a new bid to have him killed. 

Through the pain, trauma, and fear, a new emotion stirs inside him as he looks at a different feature than the one that he had been imagining for himself, and sees what his friends have been telling him for the last year: he has to find something to live for to really heal.
